“Music is all around us. All we have to do is listen.” -August Rush
Yes, indeed. And the truth of this quote, is not lost in a premier academic institution like IIT Delhi. The primary objective of education here, has always been producing stellar engineers and technical personnel, but 4 (or 5) years of continuous study and no play (recreation) would definitely make Jack a dull, stellar engineer. Keeping this in mind, let us take a look at one of the most exciting extra-curricular clubs of IITD, the Music Club.
Regular activity and amazing events are two outstanding features of the Musical community here. And this is made possible by the three music societies, that work under the umbrella of the Music Club. These are – Mridang, the Eastern Music Society; Cadence, the Western Music Society; and Infusion, the fusion artists. These societies conduct regular sessions, throughout the year, with the goals being learning, recreation and preparation for intra, or inter college events. Rendezvous is the biggest challenge, and festival, for the Music janta; as there are a lot of competitions and some big stars of the Music industry perform here.
After describing what the Music Club has to offer, now I’ll get to what I gained, in my 2 year long association with it. It’s been a great journey, with lots still to come. I was a member of the Eastern Music Society, which came into being last year only. Then it was called Udghosh, Initially, It was just a group of people, who did not know each other that well, coming together to learn and jam. But slowly, that group turned into a family, held strong by the bonds of friendship and music. As the year progressed, the interaction between the societies increased; and the addition of new members to the Club; spread the culture, spirit and peculiarities of the Music family to even more people, all over the campus.
The – happy, proud, funny, and sometimes indescribably hilarious – memories associated with the club, are priceless. And so are the friendships forged along the way. And my way is only half done anyway.
It’s a new day, a new entry batch. And we, at the Music Club – and at IIT Delhi for that matter – welcome them to this new world, full of life, and lessons.
